I ride lots of different horses. Am I safer with a Medium Tree or a Wide?
I ride a few different horses and it always changed. I do want my own saddle because the ones that are used for lessons are too big or small etc. I can get a saddle fitter pad if it help...but I am safer with a Wide or a Medium tree. I am going with the M. Toulouse brand. Thanks.
Either one can cause problems on extreme horses. A medium tree can pinch flat withered horses and will roll around, a wide tree can rub withers on a lot of horses. Personally, I always rode a wide tree, on horses with withers, I used a thick cutback pad and never had a problem, just be aware and check the withers carefully. I preferred the stability of the wide tree on the low withered horses. I raise Paints, so mostly the horses have low withers anyway. I would vote for the wide tree as I have found it to be the most versatile.
